Pediatric flags
Seven flags. Not seventy.
The don't-cry-wolf philosophy: a short list you actually trust because it isn't everything.
"Most baby apps send you a notification for every spit-up. After a week you stop reading the alerts. We decided to build something different: an alert system you actually trust."
— Alejandro Taubas, Co-Founder
The seven flags
Observations that warrant a call
These are observational prompts, not diagnostic criteria. If Xoul flags something, it means: consider calling your pediatrician.
Feeding refusal — newborn
No feeding for 8+ hours in a newborn under 3 months. Extended gap logged across all caregivers.
Volume drop — significant
Feed volume drops more than 40% from the recent 5-day average for two or more consecutive feeds.
Extended inconsolable crying
Logged crying for 3+ hours, not responding to usual comfort, without an obvious logged cause.
Sleep pattern — sudden sharp drop
Total sleep time drops more than 3 hours from the 7-day average across two consecutive days — and feeding is also reduced.
No wet diaper — extended
No diaper change logged for 12+ hours when the previous 5-day pattern shows consistent activity. May indicate dehydration.
Logged high temperature note
Caregiver manually logs a fever note (>100.4°F) alongside other disrupted pattern entries.
Multiple concurrent disruptions
Three or more patterns flagged simultaneously (feed down + sleep down + diaper gap). Combination signal — worth a call.
Xoul is not a medical device
These flags are reminders to call your pediatrician, not diagnoses. Xoul does not screen, diagnose, or treat any condition. Nothing in this app replaces a conversation with your child's doctor. If you are ever unsure, call your pediatrician — that is always the right decision.
What we don't flag
Normal things that sound scary
Xoul deliberately does not flag these — they are common, expected, and not reasons to call your pediatrician on their own.
Occasional spit-up
Mild spit-up after feeds is normal in the first year. Xoul does not flag it unless combined with a feeding volume drop.
Brief fussiness
A fussy period under 90 minutes is common and not flagged. Xoul flags only extended inconsolable episodes.
Minor diaper rash note
Diaper rash logged as a note is not flagged unless it's accompanied by other significant pattern disruptions.
